Chris Waddle returned to English football in 1992 when he signed for Sheffield Wednesday from French side Olympique Marseille for £1.25m. In 1993 Waddle was named the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year after some excellent performances for the Owls on the right wing, despite being left-footed. Waddle's famous 'step over' move often had full-backs deceived as he so often provided David Hirst and Mark Bright with pin-point crosses.
