Birmingham City will play European football next season for the first time since 1962. This follows their magnificent triumph over Arsenal at Wembley Stadium to lift the League Cup. Goals from Nikola Zigic and Obafemi Martins saw off the Gunners to give every Blues fan a day to remember in the Capital. The Blues were in fact the first English club side to play in European competition when they played their first match in the 1955-58 Fairs Cup on 15 May 1956. They were also the first English club side to reach a European final, the 1960 Fairs Cup, where they lost to FC Barcelona.
